A leading European data centre delivery partner is seeking a highly experienced MEP Design Lead to oversee multidisciplinary design coordination on major hyperscale projects across Iberia. This is a senior leadership role within one of Europe’s fastest-growing mission-critical contractors—offering exceptional career progression, top-tier project exposure, and a premium remuneration package.
You will lead the design function across mechanical, electrical, and public health services, ensuring seamless collaboration between internal engineering teams, external consultants, and the client’s design group. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in technically complex environments and wants to shape the engineering delivery of high-value data centre facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all design coordination with the client’s design team and discipline leads
Manage in-house design engineers and external consultants to ensure timely delivery
Chair design workshops and proactively resolve design clashes before site execution
Oversee the Technical Submittal (TS) process and ensure full compliance with project specs
Manage RFIs, design queries, documentation, and weekly design reviews
Control IFC (Issued for Construction) drawing releases and design change management
Maintain a project-wide design risk register and report to senior leadership
Coordinate FFE package design submissions for administrative areas
Produce weekly design progress and risk reports
Oversee contractor construction drawing reviews, approvals, and as-built documentation
Ensure all O&M documentation is delivered and uploaded to client platforms
Manage compliance with LEED, BIM, and other project-specific design standards
Engage with Temporary Works Designers and manage design risk assessments
Coordinate with OFCI vendors and manage technical submittals
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a related field)
10+ years in MEP design management or engineering leadership
Strong background in data centres, large-scale MEP, or mission-critical projects
Excellent stakeholder and multidisciplinary coordination skills
Strong understanding of QA/QC, design workflows, and change control
Experience with BIM, LEED, and modern collaboration platforms preferred
